Dr. Joseph N. Evans serves as senior pastor of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Washington, D.C. Mount Carmel has an economic development partnership with Quadrangle and the Wilkes Company; together they acquired prime real estate valued at more than 7 million dollars.  Mount Carmel will construct a private academy, non-profit office space, a beneath surface parking garage and a mixed housing unit: condominiums, apartments and an affordable housing component. The urban project exceeds 21 million dollars and serves as an economic model for the revitalization of downtown Washington.  In addition, Dr. Evans has lead Mount Carmel to create a multimillion dollar endowment.  One of its initiatives affords scholarship monies to deserving students.  
Dr. Daniel Akin, president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary states that, “Dr. Evans is a uniquely gifted expositor who blends a beautiful partnership of exposition that connects with his audiences.” Dr. Gardner C. Taylor has said, “Joseph is among the most brilliant preachers of his generation.” Widely listened to on radio, Evans brings biblical texts to life and demonstrates textual meaning and application for congregations. Dr. Evans regularly attends Proclaimer’s Place, an expository preaching seminar at Regents Park College, Oxford University.  He writes opinion editorials and essays for The Washington Times, The Washington InformerThe National Baptist Voice and other publications. Recently Dr. Evans has been invited to lecture at the National Conference on Preaching 2008.
In addition to serving Mount Carmel, he is a commissioned officer in the United States Army National Guard as a Chaplain [Major].  Dr. Evans is an adjunct professor of preaching at the Divinity School, Howard University and Wesley Theological Seminary. He is a board member of the Academy of Homiletics, Stoddard Baptist Nursing Home, Nannie Helen Burroughs School and several others. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.  Dr. Evans earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Preaching in the School of Theology of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Dr. Evans is married to the former Patricia Lewis. He has two children, Gabrielle and Matthew.
